Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc is the largest not-for-profit aged care and retirement living provider based in South Australia and also provides services in the Northern Territory and Victoria.
Established in 1968, Southern Cross Care has proudly supported members of our community with high quality care and services for more than 55 years. Our valued residents and clients are at the heart of everything we do as we support them to be Better for life, and our staff benefit from an employee well-being program that supports them at work and at home.

Our management and Board receive feedback from members of our community through the Residential and Community Consumer Advisory Groups. The Consumer Advisory Groups provide valuable feedback and input to inform our decision-making and ensure our residents and clients receive the very best care..
History
Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc was founded in 1968 by the Knights of the Southern Cross, an order of Catholic laymen who saw a need for housing and support for older people in their community.
Timeline
- 1968: Southern Cross Care (initially Southern Cross Homes) is established
- 1969: the first affordable retirement living units at Croydon, SA are built
- 1970s: 30 sites for retirement living are constructed, with funding support from the Commonwealth Government
- 1976: our first aged care centre opened at The Pines in North Plympton, SA
- 2008: Construction begins in the Northern Territory on Pearl Supported Care and The Pearl Retirement Resort
- 2012: Our Community Foundation is established to channel fundraising efforts into programs that enrich the quality of life of older Australians
- 2019: Our community expands into Victoria with the acquisition of The Mornington Retirement Village
Southern Cross Care now spans three states and territories with more than 60 service locations. Our organisation supports up to 10,000 people each year and employs almost 3,000 staff.

Locations
Southern Cross Care’s central office is Peter Taylor House, located at 25 Conyngham Street, Glenside SA. We provide residential aged care in 16 nursing homes across metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula, as well as at Pearl Supported Care in Darwin.
Our 40 Retirement Villages are located in SA, the NT and VIC and our Home Care services are also available in all regions. Other services are delivered in our five Health & Fitness Centres across SA and one in Darwin, three respite cottages in SA, and in our clients’ own homes as well as the broader community.
Community Foundation
Our Community Foundation’s goal is to build better lives free from loneliness and isolation. The Community Foundation engages the support of our generous donors and supporters to fund projects and programs that help older people to engage, connect and boost their overall wellbeing through social interaction.
Acknowledgement of Country
At Southern Cross Care, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands upon which we operate and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
Southern Cross Care engaged talented Ngarrindjeri artist, Jordan Lovegrove, to create a custom artwork representing the journey and growth of our organisation. The artwork acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands where Southern Cross Care provides services and honours the organisation’s focus on connection, care, and supporting older people to be Better for life.
