Aquatherapy versus hydrotherapy: what's the difference?

Aquatherapy

Supplied by Accredited Exercise Physiologist Emily Arthur

At Southern Cross Care, we offer a variety of water-based services designed to help you achieve your rehabilitation and fitness goals. Our aqua fitness and hydrotherapy classes are both held in water, but they serve different purposes.

Aqua fitness

Our aqua fitness classes are high-energy, fast-paced sessions designed to improve physical fitness, strength, and balance.

Led by our qualified instructors, these classes feature circuit-style exercises and the use of water-based equipment like dumbbells, kickboards, noodles, and resistance bands.

It’s a fun and social way to work out, offering both an intense physical challenge and the opportunity to connect with others.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy classes, on the other hand, are self-paced and focused on rehabilitation.

These classes are suitable for many individuals as part of a managed recovery or rehabilitation plan.

Each client follows an individualised program designed by our exercise physiologists or physiotherapists, tailored to their specific rehabilitation needs.

Our hydrotherapy classes are also led by our exercise physiologists or physiotherapists who are available throughout the class to offer professional advice and insights into the programs.

Entry into either aqua or hydrotherapy classes requires a one-on-one assessment with one of our exercise physiologists or physiotherapists to determine suitability and discuss how water-based therapy may assist with your goals.
